What is an AI digital twin?
An AI digital twin is an AI version of a real person: it looks like them, sounds like them and talks the way they do. People can video call it, voice call it or message it, and it answers live.
Digital twin, AI clone, AI avatar: what’s the difference?
“Digital twin” started in engineering, where it means a live virtual copy of a machine or a building. Applied to people, it means something more personal: an AI version of you that other people can actually talk to. You’ll also hear “AI clone”, “AI avatar” or “talking avatar”. A personal AI twin combines three things:
- Your face, animated in real time, so a video call looks like you.
- Your voice, cloned from a short recording, so it sounds like you.
- What you know and how you talk, so its answers feel like yours.
How do you make an AI twin of yourself?
On Headsupp it takes one photo and about 15 seconds of your voice, recorded in the iPhone app. Headsupp turns the photo into a talking video version of you and the recording into your cloned voice. Setup takes about a minute. You then tell your twin about yourself and decide what it will and won’t talk about.
What can people do with your twin?
Whoever you share it with can reach your twin by video call, voice call or text, any time and in any time zone. It replies live with your face and your voice, and remembers what each person told it so the next conversation picks up where the last one ended. That memory stays between your twin and that person.
- Friends and family can catch up with you across time zones.
- Creators and coaches can answer every fan or client, not just the few they have time for.
- Businesses will be able to put a familiar face on their front desk (coming soon).
Will people know it’s an AI?
Always. Every twin is labelled as the AI twin of its owner, says it is an AI the first time someone talks to it and whenever it’s asked, and never claims to be human or to be the real person. What it says is generated by AI, not said by the person it depicts.
Can someone make a digital twin of me without asking?
Not on Headsupp. A twin may only be created by the person it depicts, from their own photo and their own voice. If you ever find a twin of you that you didn’t make, tell us by email and a person will look into it.
How do I get one?
Headsupp is in private beta on iPhone. Join the private beta and we’ll email you when your invite is ready, or watch a real, unedited call with an AI twin first.
